A visitor to the Dingle

Bye Bye Blackbird

AMAZING!!! - I have just watched from my desk a Kestrel drop down and take a blackbird who was minding his own business eating crab apples on our tree. I just managed to get the camera and long lense to see our predatory friend heading off with lunch.

It clearly spooked the chickens, but they are back scratching around again now ... though perhaps a little more alert than before.

Critter time again

Seems our resident squirrel hasn't given up eating the bird food yet. Here he is doing his SAS thing, finishing the last of the pie. We have slowed him down by caging it but a complete halt seems a mission impossible!

Snowy robin

The little birds have been very active at the feeders today - all the species we usually see plus song thushes (a new one). The robin was looking particularly sleek

Gold! - new visitors

Having put out a feeder with Niger Seed we now have a pair of Goldfinches visiting us regularly. They almost always visit as a pair, and sit for ages eating the seed through a tiny hole!

Who's looking at ewe?

I had a bit of a shock when looking out of my window to see this face staring back at me! I sense that next door's field had become less than secure.

Woody's back

Woody seems to be a regular visitor to our feeders - this was his 2nd of 3 visits I have seen today. We have bought a woodpecker nesting box so ... if he has a lady woodpecker friend ...

Seed snaffler

Call my an amateur but I don't think that this is a bona fide bird. Perhaps the lack of wings and beak gave it away. I will have to contact the RSPB for a definite identification. Unless of course its a squirrel?

Fred and a friend

Here is Freddie the Pheasant plus a friend. As you can see they are not quite the same: Fred (at the front) is a common ring-necked, or common pheasant but his friend looks a bit different. He is a melanistic pheasant.

Snow fun

Today we had about 3 inches of snow. All our feathered friends came out to play including a new one for us - a male Greater Spotted Woodpecker. He appeared briefly while I was getting other photos and looked good. Hopefully he will be a regular visitor.


Our strange "mutant" friend was back again - tentatively identified as a blackbird with odd colouratiion.

Freddie

Here is Freddie the Pheasant - who has a habit of mooching around the front garden every now and then. This is a really fuzzy photo which I will try to improve.

Pesky Wabbit

New wildlife sighted! We saw this little chap from the kitchen window at 14:56 this afternoon. Trotted towards us from behind the stables, hung a right, and then into the border to nibble at some tasy-looking daffodils. I am sure we will see more of him.

We are so lucky! Today we were visited by someone recognised the world over, good-looking, self-confident perhaps even arrogant, and a born performer.
Don't think he is from Stoke though!
